It doesn’t matter who we are, we are all going to have regrets in life. There are times, however, when those regrets can keep us up at night for years. One woman who is expressing regret is very well known. She is the mother of a British toddler who vanished while the family was on holiday in the Portuguese Algarve in 2007.
Kate McCann, mother of Madeleine McCann, has always carried something in her heart that was difficult to handle. It was a regret that she had, and she spoke about it four years after her three-year-old daughter vanished.
It happened in 2017, when the toddler was at the family’s hotel apartment and the parents were at a dinner nearby. They were at a restaurant where they could keep their eye on the apartment, but Madeleine was gone when they got back. About 10 PM, Kate went back to check on the three children at the property. She found out that Madeleine was missing, and it has been an ordeal that continues some 18 years later.
Ever since that time, the couple has continued to put up many campaigns to look for information about where the girl may have gone. A number of books have been published, and some even provide insights into what has taken place in the investigation.
Madeleine: Our Daughter’s Disappearance and the Continuing Search For Her was a 2011 memoir in which Kate spoke about everything she could remember about the evening the little girl went missing. She also confessed a ‘bitter regret’ that she and her husband carry down to this day.
Kate spoke about the time that she and Gerry had requested a table for dinner at the Ocean Club restaurant at the resort. They wanted the ability to see the holiday home, where their little girl and twins were sleeping. After they found out that the little girl was missing, she discovered that one of the restaurant staff had written a request on the notes for the reservation. It led to the realization that there were unsupervised children in the apartment.
She wrote: “To my horror, I saw that, no doubt in all innocence and simply to explain why she was bending the rules a bit, the receptionist had added the reason for our request: we wanted to eat close to our apartments as we were leaving our young children alone there and checking on them intermittently. “We now bitterly regret it and will do so until the end of our days.”
This week, a new documentary was released, and people are once again looking at this strange disappearance. That documentary, ‘Madeleine McCann: The Unseen Evidence’, outlines some disturbing evidence that was found in 2016 that claims the toddler is deceased.
A number of images were shown to viewers of some artifacts that were discovered in an abandoned factory. That factory was owned by a German national, Christian Bruckner, who is also a convicted sex offender. He was named as a suspect in 2020.
USB sticks and a hard drive were discovered, and that fact was revealed in the documentary. Some other underage children, thought to be between four and five years old, were shown on those devices. They also found some masks at the property, unlicensed guns, toys for children, and up to 75 swimming costumes for children. As of yet, the Mc Canns have not addressed the documentary publicly, but they did share a statement that marked almost 2 decades since the disappearance.
“As we arrive at the 18th anniversary of Madeleine’s abduction, we’d like to thank our faithful supporters once again for standing by us and never forgetting about Madeleine.
“The years appear to be passing even more quickly and whilst we have no significant news to share, our determination to ‘leave no stone unturned’ is unwavering. We will do our utmost to achieve this.” Kate and her husband also reminded those who follow the case that May is the month that their daughter was born. She would have been 22 years old this year.
The couple ended the post: “No matter how near or far she is, she continues to be right here with us, every day, but especially on her special day. We continue to ‘celebrate’ her as the very beautiful and unique person she is. We miss her.”
